As you can see from the picture I included in the step-by-steps, there are ten 'holes' in the bars for the wires to be secured. If you want to use 9 lights, you'll have one that won't be used. A nut it screwed onto the nipple securing the lid. The nipples and bolts can be purchased in different colors or, you can spray paint them.
